ROCKPORT — Frederic W. Coulon, 80, died unexpectedly, following a cardiac event, Thursday, March 28, 2019 at his home.

Born July 13, 1938, in Weymouth, Massachusetts, he was the son of Joseph F. and Patricia Curry Coulon.

He was educated in Massachusetts schools, graduating from Braintree High School.

Following graduation, Fred enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served for four years before being honorably discharged.  Returning to civilian life, he went to work as a machinist at Pneumatic Scale and later at the shipyard in Quincy, MA.

During this time, Fred met Elaine Leblanc in Braintree, MA and the two were married in 1965. Soul mates and best friends, Fred and Elaine raised their daughter in Hanover, MA.

When he was 30 years old, Fred enrolled in college. Starting at Junior college he earned straight A’s, which led to his acceptance at Boston University where he earned his MBA in Finance and Accounting.

For many years Fred was employed as a Loss Control Consultant with The Hartford Company in Boston, MA and later with Pneumo Corporation in Boston in Treasury Services.

After vacationing in Maine for many years, Fred’s love of all things Maine prompted their retirement here. Once here, Fred kept busy and was very active in the community. He was a chairperson and contributor to the Camden Conference and attended the Mid-Coast Forum for many years.

He had a great love of the ocean and sailing and enjoyed racing boats in Rockland Harbor. Together with his wife, he enjoyed many trips aboard the Mary Day schooner.

Fred could do anything he put his mind to. He had a knack for engineering and was always making drawings for projects he could and would build. He had excellent wood working skills and kept an immaculate work bench in his garage. The concept of ‘Do It Yourself’ came naturally to him and there wasn’t a project he couldn’t figure out.

He will be sadly missed by all who loved him.

He was predeceased by his father Joseph Frederic Coulon, sister Barbara Coulon, and his mother-in-law Rita Leblanc with whom he was very close.

Fred is survived by his beloved wife, Elaine Coulon of Rockport, ME; his daughter Barbara A. Coulon and her husband Jason Moody of Bolton, MA; his granddaughter Sophie Coulon Moody; his beloved mother Patricia Coulon; and a sister Judith Coulon of East Bridgewater, MA.

A Funeral Mass will be held Friday, April 26, at 2 p.m., at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, 150 Broadway, Rockland, ME.

Arrangements are in the care of Burpee, Carpenter and Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland.
