Freda Stone, obituary
OWLS HEAD — Freda W. Stone, 92, died peacefully June 11, 2014, at her home.
Born in South Thomaston on Feb. 11, 1922, she was the daughter of Earle C. and Arlene Sawyer Woodman. She was educated in Owls Head and Rockland schools and was a 1942 graduate of Rockland High School.
While still in high school, she worked as a baker at Home Methods Bakery and later worked at other local bakeries.
On May 4, 1943, she married Chester Stone at Littlefield Memorial Baptist Church in Rockland. The couple resided in Owls Head all their married lives. Many will remember Freda and Chet selling strawberries every spring at their home.
She was an avid genealogist and enjoyed reading. She had compiled genealogies for the Woodman and Dow families.
Freda was a longtime member of both the Owls Head Grange and Owls Head Baptist Church.
Other than her parents, Freda was predeceased by two brothers, William Woodman in 1994 and Osmond “Buddy” Woodman in 2013. She is survived by her beloved husband, Chester of Owls Head; her sister, Lura Michaels of Owls Head; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A service will be held Tuesday, June 17 at 10 a.m. at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock St. in Rockland. Burial will be in Ash Point Cemetery in Owls Head.
