Frank J. Hart, obituary

BELFAST — Frank Jesse Hart, 83 of Belfast, passed away peacefully on the morning of May 16, 2020 at Sussman House in Rockport. He had been surrounded by his loving family in the days preceding.

Frank was born in Appleton, Maine on September 20, 1936, the third child of Frank J. and Sheila (Miller) Hart. He was raised on the family dairy farm in Appleton with sisters Carolyn and Esther. He graduated from Appleton High School in 1955 and played on the basketball and baseball teams. 

Frank met his future wife, Muriel (Chute), at his sister Carolyn's house where she was babysitting his nieces and nephew. Muriel and Frank were married in the Liberty Baptist parsonage on May 11, 1958 and celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary this year.

Frank loved to take Sunday drives to "see where this road goes." He loved getting together with family for cookouts and family meals. Earlier in life he liked ice fishing with the family and watching the kids ice skate and snow sled. He also enjoyed playing cards, especially cribbage.

Frank worked many different jobs in his early life, mainly farming of cattle and chickens. He worked for Sprowl  Brothers Lumber Company in Searsmont for roughly 16 years. Later he raised chickens for Maplewood Poultry Company on the Montville plantation. From there he worked on a poultry egg farm in Lincolnville before finally purchasing his own farm in Belfast raising broiler chickens for Penobscot Poultry. He retired from driving gravel trucks for Marriner's Paving in Washington, Maine.

Frank was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Sheila; and sisters, Carolyn and husband Howard Collins and Esther and husband Bill Mathieson.

Frank is survived by wife, Muriel of Belfast; son Richard and wife Sara (Peaslee) of Chesapeake, Virginia; daughter Sarah and her partner Peter of Gray; son Wayne and wife Darlene (Beverage) of Belfast; five grandchildren: Teresa Noteboom and husband Phillip, Richard F. Hart II and wife Stephanie (Harris), Elizabeth Weeks and husband Kevin, Julie Matthews and husband Larry, Carrie Hart and partner John Garlick; as well as six great-grandchildren, Nolan, Ayden and Emily Noteboom and Julian, Gabriel and Derek Weeks; also many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A private viewing and interment due to current restrictions will be held at Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Avenue, Belfast followed by interment at Pine Grove Cemetery in Appleton.
