Former Camden resident pleads guilty to lobbying violations relating to Trump inauguration
The international and national press has been reporting throughout the day, Aug. 31, about the guilty plea of former Camden resident W. Samuel Patten to, “illegally lobbying in the US for pro-Russia politicians from Ukraine,” according to the Guardian newspaper. “As part of his plea deal, he agreed to cooperate with Robert Mueller, the special counsel investigating links between Donald Trump’s campaign team and Russian interference in the 2016 election.”
Patten, 47, once a student at Camden-Rockport High School, has a business as an international political consultant, according to his website.
“Sam Patten has spent two decades tackling complex problems so that his clients, causes and friends stand a better chance of success,” his website said. “As an international political consultant based in Washington, DC, he works extensively in the United States as well as in the former Soviet Union, Eastern Europe, Africa, Asia and the Middle East. He has built a business that is unique in its ability to help people tell their stories and persuade others that there is a better way of doing things.”
Patten appeared before the Senate Intelligence Committee in January, according to the Guardian.
The New York Times reported today: “An American lobbyist who worked with Russian and Ukrainian oligarchs pleaded guilty on Friday to failing to register as an agent of a foreign power and disclosed to prosecutors that he helped a Russian political operative and a Ukranian businessman illegally purchase four tickets to President Trump’s inauguration.”
