Five Towns under-11 baseball squad runner-ups in Belfast tournament
BELFAST — The Five Towns under-11 baseball team hit the road to Belfast July 12 to play in the first annual Belfast under-11 tournament. Competing teams were comprised of 10- and 11-year-olds.
The four-team double elimination tournament saw the opening pitch thrown at 8 a.m. and the final game’s pitch at 6:45 p.m. All action was played at Belfast’s Walsh Field.
The Five Towns roster was comprised of Sam Moody, True Crane, Aidan Schecter, Nick Tausek, Jeremy Fraser, Matthew Kremin, Emerson Brott, Emmitt Dayhoof, Owen Power and Luke Moody. The coaches were Jon Crane, Mike Kremin and Tim Moody.
Five Towns went 2-2 in the tournament and opened with a 6-2 loss against Belfast. In the loser’s bracket, the locals bested Rumford 8-0 with Fraser pitching a complete game. The game was scoreless through four innings. In the next contest, Five Towns topped Pittsfield 10-4 after jumping out to an early lead.
Five Towns challenged undefeated Belfast with everything they had, but ultimately lost 12-2 in the tournament’s championship contest.
The batting order, with defensive positions in parentheses, was: Fraser (pitcher, shortstop), Sam Moody (pitcher, catcher, shortstop), Crane (pitcher, catcher, shortstop), Tausek (third base, pitcher), Schecter (first base), Kremin (center field), Brott (second base, pitcher), Power (left field), Dayhoof (right field) and Luke Moody (right field).
Offensive information was not available.
Coach Crane said that organizers Scott Cournoyer and Penson Bartlett, “did a great job hosting this tournament”.
