AUGUSTA — The Maine Department of Education announced Thursday two dozen school districts across the state applied for, and were conditionally awarded, McKinney-Vento Subgrants: COVID-19 Emergency Mini Grants.

The grants are designed to assist school districts better serve students experiencing homelessness.

“Thank you to each of these districts for their thoughtful dedication to identifying and serving students experiencing homelessness in their communities,” the MDOE said in a news release.

Among the recipients were Five Town Community School District, which serves the communities of Camden, Appleton, Rockport, Hope and Lincolnville via Camden Hills Regional High School.

RSU 12, which serves Palermo and six Lincoln County towns, was also named a recipient.

The DOE will be contacting the aforementioned bidders soon to negotiate a contract, the release noted.

As provided in the RFA, the Notice of Conditional Contract Award is subject to execution of a written contract and, as a result, this Notice does not constitute the formation of a contract between the Department and the apparent successful vendor, the release stated.
