Fill your feeders for Mid-Coast Christmas Bird Counts
Mid-Coast Audubon will be conducting the annual Christmas Bird Counts (CBC) in the Midcoast region during the week of December 14-20.
"If you like to feed birds in your yard, you can help," said Mid-Coast Audubon, in a news release.
The annual counts contribute to the North American database for the National Audubon Society’s CBC, which is now in its 126th year. It is the nation's longest-running community science bird project, according to the Audubon. The data collected by observers over the past century allow Audubon researchers, conservation biologists, wildlife agencies and other interested individuals to study the long-term health and status of bird populations across North America.
"If you have bird feeders in your yard, please fill them up," said Audubon. "Volunteer bird observers will be out driving through the count areas looking for birds. If your feeders are full, it makes counting the birds much easier as they gather in your yard. By simply keeping your feeders full, you will be making a significant contribution to this national citizen science effort."
