Everyman to present old time radio style ‘A Christmas Carol’ in Camden, Jan. 3
CAMDEN — On the 10th Day of Christmas, Camden Opera House’s SoundCheck series brings Everyman Repertory Theatre back for another holiday radio-style reading. This year, it’s “A Christmas Carol,” presented Friday, Jan. 3, at 7:30 p.m.
On Christmas Eve 1939, Lionel Barrymore teamed with Orson Welles and his Mercury Theatre for a Campbell Playhouse production on the Columbia Broadcasting System. Barrymore is perhaps best known for playing Mr. Potter in the classic film It’s a Wonderful Life, but in this radio production, he took on Charles Dickens’ Ebenezer Scrooge.
Everyman’s Paul Hodgson has adapted the original radio script for the WERT troupe’s annual holiday treat featuring local actors, recorded music and sound effects. This production is dedicated to to the late Dean Jorgenson, "WERT’s irreplaceable Lonnie LaTrine," said the Opera House, in a news release.
SoundCheck shows run for one hour.
Tickets are just $10, available in advance at camdenoperahouse.com and at the door (cash only, please). Seating is general admission. SoundCheck is sponsored by the opera house’s Community Arts Fund.
This show will be recorded for later viewing on the Camden Opera House YouTube Channel.
