Eugene Palmer, obituary
BELMONT — Eugene Palmer, of Belmont, Maine passed away peacefully in his sleep at the Maine Veterans home in Augusta on May 19, 2021.
He was born March 27, 1941 in Liberty Maine, to Lysander and Gleniess (Thompson) Palmer.
Gene met his wife, Nyoka (Curtis), at a dance in 1957. He graduated in 1959 from Walker High School in Liberty, Maine. He served in the military for 3 years until 1962 and he and Nyoka married in August of that year.
He worked as an electrician for GAC in Searsport and retired in 2009 after 44 years. For many years Gene had a sawmill and did custom sawing. He was a Shriner, a member of Eastern Star and a Mason. He served as master of Liberty Lodge for 2 terms.
Gene loved motorcycles. He and Nyoka travelled across the country 3 times on their motorcycle. Genes favorite pastime was dancing and he and Nyoka were known for their smooth dance moves.
He was predeceased by his parents; his father-in-law, Carlton Curtis; his brothers Richard and Keith; and by his sister, Patty ludwick.
Surviving are his beloved wife, Nyoka; his 3 children, daughter Robin Ashe and her husband Ken, son Ricky and daughter Kristen Collins and her husband Gary; 5 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; his mother-in-law, Mary Curtis; and his brother Earl of Florida.
Nyoka would like to thank the Veterans home in Augusta and all the staff that took such wonderful care of her husband. He was always treated with respect and love. She will always be grateful.
At the request of his family, there will not be a funeral.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, May 30, at 2 p.m., at the Waldo Town office. All friends and family are welcome.
