Eleanor J. Rose, obituary

ROCKLAND, Maine — Eleanor J. Rose, 96, died Wednesday, July 7, 2021, of infirmities at Harbor Hill long term care facility in Belfast. The family appreciates the care she received, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Born in Cushing, June 9, 1925, she was the daughter of Alfred H. and Bertha (Carter) Orne. As a child she attended the Broad Cove Church in Cushing.

In 1964 she was reunited with her son Donald Pomroy. They maintained a relationship until her death.

She lived in Bloomfield, New Jersey for many years, where she met and on September 20, 1975, married the love of her life, James Rose. They met while serving jury duty together. They enjoyed singing and became members of the choir at the Watchung Presbyterian church. They also enjoyed traveling and visited Europe and the Holy Lands. They took cruises and loved to go to dinner and a show in New York City.

Jim predeceased her on January 15, 1994.

Following her husband’s passing, Eleanor moved back to Maine where she shared an apartment with her sister Edith Johnson in Portland. She later moved to the Midcoast area where Eleanor attended the First Baptist church of Rockland.

More recently, Eleanor resided several years at the Methodist Home in Rockland, where she enjoyed the friendship of many of her neighbors.

Other than her parents, Eleanor was predeceased by siblings Mary Greenlaw, Ralph Orne, Edith Johnson, Joan Butler, Sidney Orne, Howard Orne, and Kenneth Orne.

She is survived by siblings Bernice Bennett of Bangor, Gloria Dearborn of Union, Leona Mixon of Perry, Georgia; her son, Donald Pomroy and wife Toshiko of Uncasville, Connecticut; her grandchildren, Dawn Hobbs and husband Kevin of Canterbury, Connecticut, Chris Pomroy of Bozrah, Connecticut; stepchildren James Rose, Jr. of Fairlawn, New Jersey, Karen Ritacco of Bloomfield, New Jersey, Gary Rose of Concord, North Carolina; great-grandchildren, Andrew Hassell and Ava Hassell, of Canterbury, Connecticut, Kevin Pomroy and Ty Pomroy of Bozrah, Connecticut; as well as many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held Friday, July 16, 2021 at 11 a.m., at Burpee, Carpenter and Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland. Pastor Jack Highland will officiate. Interment will be at Pleasant View Cemetery, Davis Point Road, Cushing.
