Eight local basketball teams earn playoff berths

After months of preparation and between 12 to 18 games, depending on the team, the high school basketball regular season has come to a close. 

With the final regular season contests being played, the playoff seeds have been finalized and the first round playoff games have been set. 

From the Midcoast, three boys basketball teams qualified for the playoffs, while five girls basketball teams qualified for the playoffs. 

Qualifying for the playoffs in the boys division were Medomak Valley, Mount View and Vinalhaven. 

Qualifying for the playoffs in the girls division were Oceanside, Medomak Valley, Searsport, North Haven and Vinalhaven. 

 

Boys Playoff Picture

In Class A North, all teams earn byes for the preliminary round, thus third-seeded Medomak Valley will play sixth-seeded Skowhegan in the regional quarterfinal round Saturday, Feb. 15 at 4 p.m. at the Augusta Civic Center. 

In Class B North, ninth-seeded Mount View will play eighth-seeded Mount Desert Island in the preliminary round Wednesday, Feb. 12 at 6 p.m. at Mount Desert Island. 

In Class D South, all teams earn byes for the preliminary round, thus seventh-seeded Vinalhaven advances to the regional quarterfinal round Monday, Feb. 17 at 10:30 a.m. against second-seeded Rangeley at the August Civic Center. 

 

Girls Playoff Picture

In Class A North, all teams earn byes for the preliminary round, thus seventh-seeded Medomak Valley advances to the regional quarterfinal round Friday, Feb. 14 against second-seeded Gardiner at 5:30 p.m. at the Augusta Civic Center. 

In Class B North, eighth-seeded Oceanside will play ninth-seeded John Bapst in the preliminary round Tuesday, Feb. 11 in Rockland at 6 p.m. 

In Class C North, 11th-seeded Searsport will play sixth-seeded Central Aroostook in the preliminary round in Mars Hill. Date and time to be announced. 

In Class D South, all teams earn byes for the preliminary round, thus seventh-seeded Vinalhaven advances to the regional quarterfinal round Saturday, Feb. 15 against second-seeded Rangeley at 10:30 a.m. at the Augusta Civic Center. 

In Class D South, all teams earn byes for the preliminary round, thus eighth-seeded North Haven advances to the regional quarterfinal round Monday, Feb. 17 against top-seeded Greenville at 1:30 p.m. at the Augusta Civic Center.
