WALDO — Edward M. Beckett, Sr., 86 passed away peacefully at his home on May 9, 2021.

He was born on March 10, 1935, in Northport to Melvin and Dorothy (Mahoney) Beckett.

He married Helen M. (Leadbetter) of Searsmont and raised nine children: Edward Jr., Denise, Wilma, Charles, Eugene, Jon, Pamela, Paula, and Dennis.

He was an experienced truck driver and retired from Dead River Transportation in 1995. He received years and years of safe driving awards and was proud to state that he had logged 2 and a half million miles. He also enjoyed bird, deer, and moose hunting.

Upon retiring he purchased land and built a camp in northern Maine (Haynesville) where he and his partner, Bev Maddocks, enjoyed riding the dirt roads in search of wildlife and scenery.

He was predeceased by his son, Eugene.

There will be a graveside gathering Friday, May 14, 2021, at 2 p.m., at East Northport Cemetery, followed by remembrance and refreshments at his home, 1177 Waterville Road, Waldo.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Waldo County Hospice.

Arrangments are under the care of Riposta Funeral Home.
