Edna Butterfield, obituary
LINCOLNVILLE — Edna D. Butterfield, 92, went home to be with the Lord, June 6, 2015, at Harbor Hill Nursing Home, following an extended illness.
Born in Presque Isle on June 19, 1922, she was the daughter of Walter and Hope Towle Daggett. She was educated locally and later attended Husson College.
On Feb. 5, 1947, Edna married William M. Butterfield Jr. in Easton. Together they made their home in Presque Isle, operating a potato farm together. In 1963 the couple moved to Lincolnville, where they have since resided. For several years, they wintered in Live Oak, Fla.
For most of her career, Edna worked as a bookkeeper. Over the years she has worked for Presque Isle Air Force Base, Huston Tuttle, Marriner's Paving, Down East magazine, Stonington Furniture and the Maine Potato Growers Association.
Edna loved the Lord and was active in churches and each community in which she lived. Most recently she attended West Rockport Baptist Church.
Predeceased by her only brother, Milton W. Daggett; and her only daughter, Becky Harjula in November of 2013; Edna is survived by her beloved husband of 68 years, William Butterfield Jr. of Lincolnville; her sons, Brent Butterfield and his wife, Anette, of Waldoboro and Easley, S.C., and Bryant Butterfield and his wife, Tanya, of Lincolnville; her son-in-law, William Harjula of South Thomaston; 10 grandchildren and their spouses, Bill and Melinda Butterfield, Matthew and Lauren Butterfield, Joel and Natasha Butterfield, Breanna and Breck Holladay, Erik and Stephanie Field, Melissa Goguen, Stephanie and Patrick Polky, Greg and Amy Harjula, Gary Harjula and Kristen and Philip Jarabeck; as well as 16 great-grandchildren.
Family and friends are invited to visit Tuesday, June 9 from 1 to 2 p.m. at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock St. in Rockland, where a service will be held immediately following, at 2 p.m. The Rev. Stephen Tracey will officiate. Interment will be held at a later date at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Augusta.
