WARREN - Douglas W. Robinson, 71, gained his angel wings, Thursday, March 28, 2019 surrounded by his loving family at Pen Bay Medical Center, after a period of declining health.

Doug was born, January 7, 1948 to Ernest and Bertha Robinson.  One of sixteen children, he was known as the jokester of the family.  He loved to make people laugh with his silly nature and comical ways. It was through this he was given the nickname of “Goober”.

He loved the outdoors, Doug spent many years as a self-employed clammer.  He was also employed by Stinson’s and Holmes Packing through the years. For a short time he also ran his own bait shop.  His love of fishing did not stop with his employment as he was often found on the ice, or by the shore trying to catch the big one!

Camping was another of Doug’s passions, especially in the woods of Millinocket at Duck Brook. You could find him there several times in the summer, and especially during bear baiting and hunting season.  He loved showing his kids and grandkids the joy of being in the outdoors and was always excited to have them with him on these trips. Doug also made many friends during the years camping, including Kevin McVey, who became a very close personal friend and part of the family.

Cookouts were another of Doug’s favorite things.  An excellent cook, he loved having family over to enjoy time together.  One of his specialties were clam fritters, which were enjoyed by many. During recent days, he enjoyed the daily visits with his two great-granddaughters, ‘Kay Kay’ and ‘Ari’, along with his granddaughter Keshia.  He could often be found with nail polish on, or hair clips in as they played dress up. These times will certainly be missed.

Doug was predeceased by his parents; his first wife Janie Thomas Robinson; his companion of many years Geraldine ‘Deno’ Wall; his brothers, Walter, Ernie, and Richard; and sisters, Kathy, Debbie, Vivian, and Lista; and a son-in-law Jason Larner.  Doug is survived by his son Douglas Robinson and his wife Sammie; his daughters, Shammie Jameson and her companion Clyde Lee, Shannon Robinson and her husband Mike Lawrence, and Cheryl Long. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Keshia and her fiancé Randy, Nathan, Cody, Cooper, Tayla, Shaydlyn and her husband Jaren, Aden, Uriah, Kassidy, Haley, Justice, Harley, and Haiden; his great grandkids, Kayleigh, Arianna, Marcus and Addison. He is also survived by siblings, Patty Stone, Percy Robinson, William Robinson, Darlene Miller, Carrie Neslon, Amoe Robinson, Janice Cotton and Randy Robinson along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In keeping with Doug’s request that ‘a fuss not be made over his death’, the family will remember his life privately.  They request that all remember Doug as the caring, funny, loving and giving man that he was.

Burial will be held at a later date.

Arrangements are in the care of Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland.  To share a memory or condolence with the Robinson family, please visit their Book of Memories at www.bchfh.com.
