Douglas L. Burch, obituary
SOUTH THOMASTON — Douglas Lee Burch was born in South Thomaston, Maine to parents – the late Robert Irvine and Emily Foster Post Burch.
Doug, as he was lovingly called, left us peacefully on Tuesday, June 18, 2019 to go on to his place of eternal rest.
Doug was always a “stand-out” guy, marked by his sense of self-confidence and unshakeable loyalty to family and friends. He possessed an exemplary spirit of generosity, grace, and gratitude and always desired the well-being of others.
Doug was a man of few words, but when he spoke you were mesmerized by the depth of his wisdom and knowledge on almost any topic you wanted to discuss, from politics, to finance, to geography and history and had a wealth of information on the Caribbean. He spoke with passion and conviction – for hours!
When you were in Doug’s presence you felt that aura of safety and protection that he exuded – whether you were family, friend or a casual acquaintance. He lived life to the fullest every day and just never seemed to be
bothered by anything or anyone for that matter – calm, cool and collected. That was his mantra. He can be summed up this way: “He tried his best to do what was right and to do it the right way.”
Doug was dedicated to and loved his family. Now, even though we have this void in our hearts, he has left us an unforgettable legacy of the characteristics that made him Doug.
He leaves to celebrate the precious memories of his life: his beloved wife, Debra Marecheau Burch; daughter, Sarah Burch Murray (David Murray, son-in-law); grandson, Owen Murray; step-daughter, Kazia Marecheau; uncle, Edgar Post; nephew, Danny Burch (Lisa); brother-in-law, Tresley Marecheau; numerous other family and friends including Roxanne Peasley (Steve); Michelle Gustra (Clinton); Denise Calderwood (Randy); and Robert Thompson (Cindy).
“Don’t think of me as gone away, My journey’s just begun. Life holds so many facets, This earth is but one.”
