Donald Flock, obituary
ROCKPORT — Donald Flock, 89, a 25 year resident of Rockport, Maine, passed away peacefully Sunday, April 27, 2025. Born in 1935 in Elk County, KS, the youngest of four siblings, he spent his early years in Winfield, Kansas.
He attended Southwestern College in Winfield Kansas, and Kansas State University where he studied architecture. Putting himself through college by working nights at Boeing as a draftsman he transferred to Wichita State University where he graduated with a degree in graphic design.
In 1959 he married Judy Youngmeyer a fellow art student. They moved to Springfield, Missouri, where he worked as a designer with the Lily Tulip Cup Corporation. While there he met a fellow creative with whom Gaylord Adams/Don Flock & Associates – a package design and corporate branding firm was established in NYC.
Upon moving to Stamford, Connecticut, two children Ladd and Kevin were born. While serving in the Air Force Reserve in Newburg, New York he met his longtime friend Bob Carter who instilled in him a lifelong love for fly fishing and bird hunting.
Moving next to Wilton, Connecticut Don took advantage of nearby etching and art workshops. His hobbies as an accomplished watercolorist and award-winning etcher brought him much pleasure over the years.
A camp was purchased on Millen Pond in Washington, New Hampshire providing a welcome escape from the city on long weekends with kayaking, sailing, hunting and fishing.
Fly fishing on the Housatonic, Connecticut and Contoocook, New Hampshire rivers, streams in New York, Montana, England and New Zealand and bird hunting in New Hampshire and Maine with his beloved dog Chester and friends Bob and Ralph were the best of times.
His desire to live near the ocean and abundant trout streams brought him to Rockport, Maine upon his retirement in 2000. There he enjoyed new friends and memberships in the First Congregational Church, the Camden Rotary Club, the George’s River Chapter of Trout Unlimited and the Rockport Boat Club.
Much appreciation is given for Don’s care provided by FCP Live-In, The Homestead and Maine Health Hospice.
He is survived by Judy, his wife of 69 years; sons, Ladd Flock and his wife Mary Ellen, Kevin Flock and his daughters Sula and Zoey; and countless cherished Kansas relatives.
He is predeceased by parents John and Luluvon Flock, formerly of Severy, Kansas; brother Ronald Flock, formerly of Winfield, Kansas; sisters, Beverly Fuqua formerly of Peace Valley, Missouri, and Mary Margaret Hukle formerly of Severy, Kansas.
A memorial celebration of Don’s life will be held in September.
