NEWCASTLE — David Levesque, a Democrat, has announced his candidacy for the Maine State Senate District 13 seat that serves all of Lincoln County plus Washington in Knox County.

“I look forward to talking with District 13 voters about my leadership and advocacy skills, experience and values,” he said in a news release. “I would be greatly honored to have the opportunity use my skills to effectively represent District 13 in the State Senate.”

Levesque has lived in Newcastle for over 20 years. He lives there with his wife, Susan, who is a math and robotics teacher at Lincoln Academy, and their three sons, Luke, 26, Austin 17, and Joseph, 14.

He grew up in Hancock County in a family engaged in the extremely hard work of commercial fishing, boat building, and marine construction. Maine's marine traditions are near and dear to him. He attended the University of Maine at Farmington and earned a degree in business and political science.

He earned a Master’s of Business Administration from the University of Southern Maine and a law degree from the University of Maine School of Law. He practices law out of his office in Damariscotta.

“Despite the struggles that come with running a law practice, it is a great pleasure pursuing justice for clients from District 13 and beyond,” Levesque said.

Having the privilege of his education, law practice and business, Levesque strives to share his experience and skills with the public and local, state and national nonprofits by serving on various boards and committees, the news release stated.

He serves the people of Newcastle as member of the town’s select board. He is a past president of the Maine State and Lincoln County Bar Associations, the Damariscotta Region Chamber of Commerce, and the University of Southern Maine Alumni Association. He is the immediate past chair of the University of Maine at Farmington Board of Visitors, and he serves on the board of The Carpenter’s Boat Shop.

Levesque is holding a formal kick-off of his campaign for the Maine Senate on Saturday, Jan. 22 at 10 a.m. in the Community Room of the Clayton V. Huntly, Jr. Fire Station, 86 River Road, Newcastle and by Zoom (please contact the campaign committee for a link or find it on the campaign’s Facebook page at facebook.com/LevesqueforSenateDistrict13).
