HOPE — Daniel S. Dodge, 58 of Hope, peacefully passed away on November 30, 2021.

Daniel, fondly called Danny or Big Dan, was born on December 20, 1962 in Belfast, Maine to Henry and Marjorie (Brodis) Dodge. Danny was raised in Rockport, Maine along side his older brother, Christopher, and two older sisters, Catherine (Dodge) Twadelle and Laurie (Dodge) Knauer. He graduated from Camden-Rockport High School in 1981. He later fathered his only son, Daniel S. Dodge II (Little Dan), on May 04, 1989. On December 11, 2004, he married Mailyn (Madagmit) Dodge and became the doting father to their daughter, Christelle Madagmit. He and his wife soon made their home in Hope with their two children in late 2005.

Danny who admired his father, a local fisherman, was taught the ropes of how to be a fisherman at a young age. A young boy’s love of the ocean turned into his life’s profession and he later became a lobsterman himself in Rockport Harbor for many years until his passing. Residents and local lobstermen will always remember Danny and his famed fishing vessel La Boat. Rain or shine, rough or smooth seas, Danny would often be seen pulling into the harbor with a laid back smile still grateful for his catch of the day. Along with his passion of lobstering, he picked up elver fishing and carpentry.

Apart from loving the ocean, Danny also loved being outdoors and frequently enjoyed and participated in outdoor recreational activities like hunting, camping and fishing. The summer before his passing, he and his wife with their senior dog and cat would often find themselves driving to different camping areas in the state every other weekend. They fearlessly conquered and drove up Mount Washington, New Hampshire, fulfilling Danny’s dream of experiencing the summit at first hand.

Danny’s extended family in the Philippines, will always remember him for his kindness and his easy going attitude. When visiting the Philippines, he would often be seen chuckling with mirth while interacting with his wife’s large family despite the language barrier. With his willingness to embrace and learn the Filipino culture made it impossible for anyone to not adore Danny.

Danny was a loving and devoted husband, a doting father, a kind brother, a true friend, a hardworking lobsterman. He will forever be missed by everyone who had come to know and love Danny dearly.

Predeceased by his parents; his brother, Christy; and his beloved son, Daniel.

He is survived by his wife, Mailyn, and daughter, Christelle; two sisters, Catherine Dodge Twadelle of Edgartown, Massachusetts and Laurie Dodge Knauer of Castleton, Vermont; his nephews Scott Twadelle of North Andover, Massachusetts, Zachary Knauer of Orlando, Florida, and Christopher Knauer of Burlington, Vermont; and several cousins.

Danny will be sorely missed by his beloved dog, Boone (12yrs), his loyal sidekick and companion; who never left his side even as he took his last breath on his death bed at Sussman’s House in Rockport, Maine.

Danny, may you rest easy in fair winds and calm seas as you reunite with your precious son and family.

A graveside service will be held at Seaview Cemetery, Saturday, July 23, 2022, at 2 p.m. A potluck will be held at Rockport Boat Club, Rockport Harbor after the service.
