Curtace ‘Scott’ Gamlen, obituary

SOUTH THOMASTON — Curtace "Scott" Gamlen, 78, passed away peacefully in the loving care of Sussman House on November 19, 2022. His wife and his brothers were by his side during his final days.
 
Scott was born in 1944 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to parents Cuthbert ("Curt") and Acela Gamlen. 

Scott grew up in New Jersey and graduated from College High School in Montclair, New Jersey, where he met his wife, Linda, in 7th grade. He attended Duke University and graduated from Fairleigh Dickinson University.
 
Scott served in the United States Navy as a pilot in the Vietnam era. After receiving an honorable discharge as a Lieutenant, Scott embarked on a career as a Southwest Airlines pilot, which he loved for the next 25 years.
 
He enjoyed music and formed a rock 'n roll band named On-Time Airline upon his retirement, and he and his wife performed as a duo at galleries and other small venues.
 
He will always be remembered by his many friends as a great guy who never had an unkind word to say to anyone. He never held a grudge and was always considerate.
 
Scott volunteered at the Owls Head Transportation Museum and Pope Memorial Humane Society until his final illness.
 
He was predeceased by his parents.  
 
Scott is survived by his loving wife, Linda, of South Thomaston; a stepson, Jeremy Duettra; and two brothers, Olaf Gamlen and Duncan Gamlen.
 
Per Scott's wishes, the family will honor his life privately.
