Community Christmas Chorus (formerly Living Christmas Tree) to sing in Thomaston
THOMASTON — The Community Christmas Chorus (formerly the Living Christmas Tree) will present this year’s cantata, “A Glorious Christmas” by Tom Fettke, at the Thomaston Baptist Church, 212 Main Street in Thomaston.
There will be three performances this year: Friday, Dec. 13, at 6 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 14, at 6 p.m., and Sunday, Dec. 15, at 4 p.m.
Admission is free, but donations are appreciated, helping defray expenses.
The Living Christmas Tree concerts have a long history of telling the story of the first Christmas, beginning under the direction of Bob Wiley (who was then organist and choir director at the Thomaston Baptist Church). He passed the torch to Rebecca Leonard, choral music teacher at Georges Valley High School. Then Letitia VanVuren took over direction, followed by current director, Jo Anne Parker, who directed the group in 2023 and again, this year. Parker is also director of the Midcoast Community Band and has a history of bringing music to the area all her adult life.
Accompanist for the second year is Beverly Pacheco, retired music teacher, along with a 5-piece wind ensemble: Lauren Casey and Kirstie Brown playing flutes; Mitch Kihn playing clarinet; Bruce Cole playing trumpet; and Margot Bridgett playing trombone. Rehearsals have been underway since the beginning of October.
There are 40 members in the chorus and the soloists are Ashley Corbett and Andrew Lappin.
