CAMDEN — Children’s House Montessori School is happy to announce the addition of a new lead elementary classroom teacher, Germaine Koomen.

Koomen has almost 30 years of experience as a Montessori certified teacher, having most recently taught in Newburyport, Mass. She is certified to teach ages 3-12 by the Northeast Montessori Institute and Seacoast Center for Education. Germaine brings a remarkable repertoire of skills, accomplishments and awards to the lower elementary program at Children's House Montessori School, which currently serves students from ages six to nine years old.

"We are thrilled to have Germaine joining our team at Children's House," said executive director, Ethan Yankura. "She comes to us, not only with a spectacular background in Montessori, but with a tremendous number of accomplishments and awards.

With a interest in nature and environmental studies, Koomen previously established a 17th century herb garden for the historic Spencer-Peirce-Little Farm in Newbury, Mass. and has already secured a partnership with the Downeast Salmon Federation through their Fish Friends program. This program offers the students an opportunity to experience salmon eggs hatching in the classroom before beingreleased as part of a larger ecological study.

We can't wait to see the great things that will unfold this year," said Yankura.

Montessori is a method of education based on self-directed activity, hands on learning and collaborative play. Multi-age classrooms cover a three-year span and are carefully prepared so that children work independently. Students experience the joy of discovery, lead each other in learning, and become compassionate community members. The school's downtown Camden location offers the lower elementary program the ability to take advantage of the many opportunities to engage with the downtown community, enjoy nature walks to Laite Beach, visit the Camden Public Libraryor call on seniors at Quarry Hill.
