TENANTS HARBOR — Charlene Allen Black, 91 of Tenants Harbor, passed peacefully to her heavenly home on February 19, 2023, surrounded by her family. She was born August 30, 1931, to Henry and Beulah Allen, of Tenants Harbor.

Charlene graduated from St. George High School in 1949, and Katherine Gibbs School in Boston, in 1950 after completing an Executive Secretarial Course. She was the bookkeeper for her husband’s businesses all their married life, the latest being Harlan Black Construction.

Charlene was a natural caregiver and cared for numerous family members in her home before they passed. Always a gracious hostess, she enjoyed cooking and entertaining in her home. She enjoyed the St. George Days and Memorial Day parades in town and would offer her lawn as a place to watch, along with coffee and muffins. Planting and tending her flower gardens each spring/summer were always an enjoyment for her. She enjoyed singing the old hymns and would play them on her piano every day.

Charlene was an active member of the Tenants Harbor Baptist Church, teaching Sunday School and Good News Club as well as the longtime Treasurer. Her faith was very important to her and a large part of her life. Family was also very important to her and she regularly made the rounds to visit those who lived near her, staying up on all their activities. Charlene also enjoyed traveling. Her grandchildren have fond memories of traveling with her throughout Maine, and other locations including DC, NY and Canada.

Charlene is survived by three daughters, Deborah Peek and her husband Dewayne, of Vinton Ohio; Elizabeth Hilchey, of South Thomaston; Abigail Hickey and her husband William, of Tenants Harbor; four grandchildren, Timothy Black and his wife Aliesha, Shasta Minery and her husband Gary, Bethany Smith and her husband Tristan and Samantha Herring; nine great-grandchildren, Drew, Will, Isabelle (Minery), Teddy, Elsie (Black) and Wesley, Levi, Sawyer, Natalie (Smith). Charlene was pre-deceased by her husband Harlan Black; a son, Timothy Allen Black; a grandson William (BJ) Johnson; her sister Elaine Stewart, and just recently her son-in-law Alton Hilchey.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, February 27, 2023, at the Tenants Harbor Baptist Church. There will be no visiting hours. Arrangements are with Burpee Carpenter Funeral Home, Rockland. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make memorial donations to the Tenants Harbor Baptist Church, P.O.
