Born in Long Island, New York, she was the daughter of Carl Leonard and Catherine (Chester) Libby and was a 1951 graduate of Rockland High School.

Much of Betty’s working years were spent at the Knox Woolen Mill in Camden where she worked until the mill closed. From the mill, she went to work at French & Brawn in the 1980s retiring just several years ago. At French & Brawn, Betty loved working in a small store where she knew most of the customers and her fellow employees. Her early employment included Van Baalen’s in Rockland and Tibbetts Industries in Camden.

In 1974, Betty moved from Camden to Hope where she and her long-time companion, Allan Jones, lived. Betty was previously active with the Tri-County Horse Club and loved to play Beano and Bingo in Rockland and Belfast. She enjoyed having lunches with a group of girls from the Class of 1951 trying local restaurants.

Betty was predeceased by her companion, Allan Jones; a brother, Charles C. Libby; and sister, Mary Nevells.

Surviving are her three children, Judith A. Whitney of South Portland, William E. Whitney and his wife, Penny of Belfast, and Susan L. Schombert and her husband Jeff of Tucson, AZ; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

In keeping with Betty’s wishes, no public services will be held. Interment will be private and held at the convenience of the family.

If desired, memorial gifts in her memory may be made to PAWS, P.O. Box 707, Rockport, Maine 04856.
