SEARSPORT —  Carver Memorial Library will be installing a new furnace at the end of October. The oil tank will be replaced at the same time.

“While we are excited about the update, it also means that the library will be closed for the installation, since the building will have no heat during the transition,” said the Library, in a news release.

The library will be closed starting Monday, October 26, and plans to stay closed until Friday, October 30, during the installation.

“If the installation finishes early, we will reopen when we can,” said Carver Memorial.

The new furnace is part of the Belvedere historic preservation and energy efficiency grant that the Library received this year, and will replace the current furnace which was installed in the 1980s. The new furnace will be more energy efficient and reliable.

New LED lighting has already been installed in the Children’s Room as part of the grant project. The third phase – installing more insulation in the attic and around the dome – is scheduled for December.

The end result of this grant-funded project will be a more attractive, comfortable, and energy-efficient building with lower ongoing utility costs, according to the Library.

“We appreciate your patience while we work to serve you better,” said Carver Memorial.
