ROCKPORT — Carol Eileen Kent, 85, died at her home early Sunday, May 26, 2019, with her sister at her side.

Born in Rockland, October 22, 1933, she was the daughter of Dr. James P. and Mary Flanagan Kent. Educated in Rockland schools, she was a graduate of Rockland High School, class of 1952.

Carol began her career with New England Telephone & Telegraph Company at the age of 16, and retired 33 years later as the editor of the corporate newspaper.

Carol was fiercely loyal to all those she loved and loved by all who knew her.

As well as her parents, Carol was predeceased by a brother, James P. Kent, Jr.; and two sisters, Mary Kent Grant and Agnes Kent Webber March.

She is survived by four step-children, George Selleck and his wife Amy of Smithfield, VA, Paul Hagan Selleck and his husband Lee of Knoxville, TN, Kelly Selleck of Mattapoisett, MA, Carolyn Selleck Metivier and her husband Jeff of Foxborough, MA; a nephew who was like a son, James Kent Kalloch of Rockland; her sister Patricia Kent Boice of Rockland; two great nieces, Makayla Kalloch of Rockland, Sarah Boice of New York City; a much loved courtesy brother, the Very Reverend Richard Rice (who was several months younger than she) of Brunswick; several generations of cousins and many friends.

She loved you all so dearly.

Carol’s family expresses their deep appreciation of Dr. James C. Delehanty’s dedicated care over the years.

There will be a Rosary service, Sunday, June 2, at 4 p.m., at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland, with visitation to follow until 6 p.m.

A Mass of Christian burial will be concelebrated by The Reverend Robert Vaillancourt and The Very Reverend Richard Rice, Monday, June 3, at 10 a.m., at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, 150 Broadway. Interment will follow in St. James Catholic Cemetery, Erin Street, Thomaston. A reception will be held following the committal service at the funeral home’s 104 Limerock reception center.
