Car topples utility pole, electrical wires on Camden's Washington Street
CAMDEN — Camden Fire Department had to wait for Central Maine Power Company to come and shut off power to Washington Street before they could assist a driver out of her car, Friday afternoon, Sept. 20.
The car's driver and sole occupant denied medical assistance after losing control of the vehicle as she drove toward downtown, just after Knowlton Street at approximately 3:20 p.m. The vehicle left the proper lane, crossed through the intersection at Trim Street and came to a stop up a pole near 69 Washington Street.
CFD and North East Mobile Health Services, along with Camden Police, were first alerted to the crash at 3:21 p.m., and for at least 10 minutes afterwards, the driver had to remain in the vehicle until it was safe for her to exit.
After cutting the power to the area, and before beginning their repair, CMP also assisted Camden Exxon's haul-out by pulling the wires up and away from the scene.
Camden Exxon hauled the car away from the scene at approximately 4:35 p.m., and the extensive lines repair began. The electrical component is expected to take approximately 3 hours. The cable and phone repairs will start after CMP is done. No estimate could be given regarding the media utilities.
