CAMDEN — Visit the Camden Public Library during National Library Week 2018 and celebrate the life of the library and the life of the community. National Library Week runs from Sunday, April 8 to Saturday, April 14, 2018. The library staff will embrace a different color theme each day. Sunday's color is orange, Monday is red, Tuesday is pink, Wednesday is blue, Thursday is green, Friday is purple, and Saturday is brown.

Celebrate National Library Week by helping Stock the Stacks. The Stock the Stacks fund is an essential part of the library's budget.

Every donation goes straight into purchasing the new books to keep the library current and vibrant. There will also be a raffle to win a Camden Public Library book tote and please join us at the Hartstone Inn for Dine for a Cause on April 8, 12, and 15. Reservations are required, available 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Call (207) 236-4259. Make sure to mention the library when "booking” a reservation, and the Hartstone Inn will donate 50 percent of the proceeds to the library.

During National Library Week, the Camden Public Library joins libraries in schools, campuses, and communities nationwide in celebrating the changes that are happening in today's libraries. National Library Week is a time to highlight the changing role of libraries, librarians, and library workers.

Libraries today are more about what they can do for and with library users, and not just what they have on the shelves. Libraries aren't only a place of quiet study, but also creative and engaging community centers where people can collaborate, learn how to use new technologies, or just relax, the release said.

"Service to the community has always been the focus of the library," said Library Director Nikki Maounis, in a news release. "Libraries level the playing field for people of any age who are seeking the information and access to technologies that will improve their quality of life. While we believe that reading is, and always will be, an essential skill, there are many forms of literacy — for instance, the ability to understand and use technology is every bit as important as the ability to read well. Our mission is to ensure our community is literate in all the ways that count."

The Camden Public Library has been serving the community in its present location since 1928. Today the library continues to evolve with a focus on education, community building, and technology.
