CAMDEN — Thor Gabrielsen, a freshman at Watershed School competing on the Camden Hills Math Team, had an impressive first year of competition with the Maine Association of Mathematics League (MAML). He took home the Top Freshman Prize, the Barry Scott Bowl, fifth place for regular season competition, and a cash award.

At the Maine State Math Meet in Augusta, he was the only freshman to earn a perfect score of 72 on the individual competition.

Thor has been invited to represent Maine at the 2019 American Regions Math League (ARML) Competition where he will compete against high school mathletes at “the World Series of Mathematics.” He is the sole freshman participating from Maine.

Each state travels with two teams of 15 math competitors to grapple with a variety of math challenges against 2,000 students from across the globe during the ARML competition. Mathletes will face individual, team, power, relay, super relay, and tiebreaker rounds.

This is Thor’s fourth year of competing in mathematics at the national level.

He would like to one day compete on the US Math Olympiad Team.
