Camden Historic Resources Committee invites public to July workshops on proposed preservation ordinance
The Camden Historic Resources Committee will hold public workshops July 10 at 6 p.m. and July 15 at 6 p.m. in the French Conference Room on Washington Street for discussions about a proposed municipal Historic Preservation Ordinance.
The Camden Historic Resources Committee is drafting the proposed ordinance following the November 5, 2024 voter approval of a nonbinding, advisory-only referendum (2,778 to 643) that enabled the committee to, "continue the development of a Historic Preservation Code that draws on the best practices of comparable towns and recommendations of the Maine Historic Preservation Commission."
The committee said it seeks to meet national/state standards and incorporate best practices from other Maine municipalities, while satisfying local preferences, according to a news release from the committee.
The goal of the workshops is to educate attendees about the benefits of historic preservation and to listen and respond to the community, the committee said. The workshops will also be available online.
The HRC is hosting the workshops to inform people what they are working on before it gets forwarded to the Camden Select Board for a possible vote in November.
