Thu, 08/08/2019 - 11:15am

CAMDEN — Auditions for the CHRHS fall musical Mary Poppins will be Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, Aug. 27, 28, and 29, from 4-7 p.m., in the Strom Auditorium. High school students are expected to attend all three days.

Tuesday: Individual vocal auditions. Students should join the Mary Poppins Schoology group (the access code is 5KZS-5DC3-SR4BQ) to sign up for their time slot. There will be six slots per 20-minute time period. Students should plan to arrive 10 minutes before their allotted time.

Wednesday: Scene reading, a little more singing and a lot of dancing.

Thursday: “Callback” day is when leads, featured singers, lead dancers, and ensemble roles will be decided.

In addition, interested middle school students in the Five Towns school district are also invited to audition, for the roles of Jane and Michael Banks. Auditions for these two roles will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 27, from 2 – 4 p.m., in the Strom Auditorium, with a possible callback audition on Thursday, August 29, from 4 – 6 p.m.

Parents of interested middle school students should contact the director, Gretchen Henderson (gretchen.henderson@fivetowns.net) for more information or to sign up for auditions.

Students interested in auditioning are encouraged to attend dance workshops on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday Aug. 20-22, from 9 – 11 a.m., in the Strom Auditorium.

Although these workshops are not required, they are designed for students who are new to dance or who want to be part of the workshopping process for the choreography. Participants will be introduced to some of the dance styles including tap that may be used in the show and should wear solid sole shoes (or bring tap shoes if they have them).

Guidelines for the audition process are posted on Schoology. Anyone having difficulties accessing the information should contact Tom Heath for assistance (thomas.heath@fivetowns.net).

Because the auditions are before the official start of school, some students may already face unavoidable conflicts. Contact the director, Gretchen Henderson, in advance, to arrange an alternate time (gretchen.henderson@fivetowns.net).
