ROCKPORT — The Visual and Performing Arts Department at Camden Hills Regional High School has selected senior Noah Vix as the January “Student of the Month.”

Noah has been very involved in the instrumental music department as well as theater for his entire high school tenure.

Noah began playing the trombone in 4th grade and was especially inspired when his 4th grade teacher wrote him a trombone solo. He continued playing in the school band, eventually switching to tuba at CHRHS.

Noah has been a four-year member of the District 3 High School Honors Band and earned a scholarship from that association. Last November he auditioned for the All-State Music Festival.

His solid and versatile musicianship has made him a prominent leader as a tuba player in the CHRHS Concert Band and as lead trombonist for the CHRHS Jazz Band.

In addition to his involvement with music, Noah has been a sound technician for a variety of plays, musicals and events in the Strom Auditorium.

Noah particularly enjoys music of the Red-Hot Chili Peppers, John Frusciante, and the Beatles. Inspired by his study of the Beatles and the work of Paul McCartney, Noah begin playing electric bass, which has become his true instrumental “passion.”

This semester he founded a student rock band named Vix and the Vapor Rubs! Not only does Noah play bass for this ensemble, but he also arranges all of the tunes.

Noah plans to continue to play bass and work with sound in college. He may also minor in music.

His advice to young arts students, “Don’t be afraid to branch out until you find your ‘passion’!”
