'Building Hope' documentary explores homelessness in Maine, Dec. 13
ROCKLAND — Homeworthy (formerly Knox County Homeless Coalition), in partnership with Rockland’s Strand Theatre, will screen Building Hope, Friday, Dec. 13, at 5:30 p.m. The documentary explores the experiences of the unhoused community across Maine, with sections featuring Homeworthy and The Landing Place.
Building Hope is a powerful documentary that delves into the lives of unhoused individuals in Maine and their journeys toward stability. Through intimate storytelling, the film highlights the struggles of people like Aneyva, a former educator displaced by the pandemic; Amelia, who rebuilt her life after domestic violence; and James, who transitioned from incarceration to a stable home and job. Featuring insights from state leaders and advocates, Building Hope examines the systemic challenges of homelessness, including the lack of affordable housing, while showcasing solutions and success stories. The documentary invites viewers to reflect on the transformative power of community and collective action, leaving a message of resilience and hope.
Homeworthy’s Executive Director, Molly Feeney, encourages community members to attend to learn more about homelessness statewide and locally.
“I think this film will open some eyes for folks that this is one of our state’s most pressing issues, even if it isn’t always as ‘visible’ in some areas as others," said Feeney, in a news release. "We’re grateful to be working alongside so many amazing organizations in Maine working to end homelessness”.
Feeney, alongside The Landing Place Director Joseph Hufnagel and the film’s producer Melody Lewis-Kane, will take part in a panel discussion following the film showing.
Admission is free; donations to benefit Homeworthy and The Landing Place will be collected at the door.
