OWLS HEAD — Brian Scott Smith, 39, passed away unexpectedly at Maine Medical Center in Portland, on Saturday, June 19, 2021.

Born July 30, 1981 in Portland to Gertrude (Curtis) Smith, he was raised in Rockland and educated in local schools.

Known as “Smitty” to those that knew him, he worked as a cook in many area restaurants including the Brass Compass, Park Street Grille, and most recently, Applebee’s in Thomaston. Tacos were his favorite food.

Brian loved to play old style video games, and watch TV. He appreciated movies of every genre, and sports of all kinds. In fact, if there was a game on, of any sport, Brian would watch it. He especially was a huge fan of the
New England Patriots, the Boston Celtics, the Red Sox, and NASCAR.

He cherished his collection of over 1,800 DVD’s that he collected over the years with his best friend, Niles Hill. Niles was more than a best friend to Brian, he was considered a brother, and with some brothers comes rivalry.
Their rivalry, albeit a healthy one, was basketball. Brian absolutely loved to play basketball with Niles, and Niles readily admitted that Brian was better at it then he was.

Niles states that Brian was known as “Uncle Smitty” to his children, and that he loved them as if they were his own. He was always very interested in their activities.

Perhaps Brian is best known for his love of billiards, as evident by the number of trophies he won over the years playing in various pool tournaments.

Brian normally kept to himself even though he had a large extended group of friends. He was a very sharing person who had very little, but what he did have, he appreciated, and made the best of it. This was no more evident than when upon his passing, his gift of organ donation saved the lives of three other people.

Part of giving of himself also extended to the special relationship he had with his niece, Ashlee Smith. They would talk on a regular basis, especially through Facebook, and enjoyed each other’s company.

Predeceased by his mother, Gertrude, and two brothers, William and Stephen Smith; he is survived by his brother Roger Smith and his wife Kimberlee of Warren; his sister, Linda Smith and her companion Joe Lynch of Thomaston; his nieces, Katie Smith of Warren, and Ashlee Smith of Rockland; his aunt, Carlene Willey of Waldoboro; his dear and close friend, Niles Hill of Owls Head; a large group of friends and many cousins.

A celebration of Brian’s life will be held at a later date and will be announced.

It is asked, if you so wish, that donations in Brian’s memory be made to New England Donor Services, 60 First Avenue, Waltham, MA 02451
