Belfast Variety Show, supper in Belfast, Nov. 29
BELFAST — Belfast American Legion Post 43 and Chris Battaglia and Michele Christle of StoryCorps’ One Small Step/Torchlight Media/WERU Community Radio are partnering to offer a community supper catered by Rollie’s and a variety show/open mic on Friday, Nov. 29, at 6 p.m., at Belfast American Legion Post 43.
The event is open to veterans, their families, friends, and the general public. The supper and show are free–donations are encouraged. Supper reservations are highly encouraged. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Supper will be served at 6 p.m. and the show will begin at 6:30 p.m. To reserve a spot, visit EventBrite.
The variety show will showcase a number of special guests and will include music, audio pieces, storytelling, and poetry around the theme of “hometown.” An open mic will be available, as well. The Belfast American Legion offers pool tables, karaoke, a cash bar and is ADA-accessible.
This event is part of an ongoing partnership between Belfast American Legion Post 43 and Battaglia and Christle vis-a-vis their work with StoryCorps’ One Small Step program and Torchlight Media. For the past two years, Battaglia and Christle have facilitated recorded storytelling conversations between strangers from different backgrounds through One Small Step. A national storytelling program with over 6,000 participants and counting, Battaglia and Christle have facilitated over 26 conversations in Maine.
In March 2024, Battaglia and Christle partnered with the Belfast American Legion and WERU to host a community supper and coffee hour focused on rural community building, inviting special guests from the Hardwick, VT American Legion alongside Hardwick, Vermont nonprofit the Civic Standard to connect with the Belfast American Legion as well as other community members.
Those inspired by collaborations such as this who are interested in connecting across different communities are invited to join Battaglia and Christle for a follow-up conversation on Wednesday, December 4, from 6–8 p.m., at Torchlight Media (158 High St. in Belfast).
