BELFAST — The Belfast Maskers announce their 2021 season.

Founded in 1987, Belfast's premiere community theater group continues to provide quality, engaging live theater, theater camps and workshops for community participants. The 34th season includes performances of Shakespeare's comedy As You Like It, set in the groovy "time of the season for loving, according to Maskers, in a news release.

Following that will be an evening of entertaining one-act plays written by four Maine authors.

The annual summer musical this year is Little Women-The Broadway Musical based on Louisa May Alcott's classic story of the March sisters.

One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest, the Tony Award winning dramatic comedy, will grace the stage in the fall.

Rounding out the 2021 season is The Best Christmas Pageant Ever – the hilarious story of six misfit children who volunteer to star in their town's Sunday school Christmas, and end up teaching the town the true meaning of Christmas.

"Last year was especially tough on all performing artists,” said Maskers Artistic Director Meg Nickerson. “We have all had to think outside the box. Being creative is what theater is all about, so I was extra excited to put our season together this year!"

The layout of the Basil Burwell Community Theater allows the Belfast Maskers to perform either inside or outside.

"There is a natural, elevated ‘stage’ area right in front of the theater and the city of Belfast has been so helpful in letting us close off a section of Court Street for outdoor audience seating," adds Nickerson. “Adhering to all state-mandated Covid 19 safety protocols and precautions at the time of performances will determine whether the show is performed inside or outside the theater.”
