Barbara A. Hannan, obituary

UNION — Barbara A. Hannan, 72, passed away peacefully Tuesday, May 28, 2019 at the Sussman House, in Rockport, following a brief illness.

Born in Damariscotta, November 16, 1946, she was the daughter of, Richard and Alma Luce. She had two brothers Robert and Freddie who preceded her in death.

Barbara attended Rockland schools and later worked for several years in Rockland and Belfast.

In 1968 she met Maxey Hannan of Union where they were married on May 29, 1969. Max and Barbara raised three sons, Douglas and his wife Janice of Plainfield, IN, Bradley of the Dominican Republic and Maxey Jr. and his partner Jessica Fontaine in Washington.

She is loved and remembered by six grandchildren; Ryan, Amber, Ashley, Logan, Brandy and Rosa; as well as her ‘special boy’ Andrew Auclair.

She enjoyed many years of friendship with her special friends, Nancy Hotham and Patty Porter.

While building a home in Union and raising her sons she also worked as a caregiver at Hills Rest Home in Union and later at Moody’s Rest Home.

Later when the boys were grown Barbara began working at Alford Lake Girls Camp with Max on the maintenance team.

Barbara had a special place in her heart for her beloved cat ‘Nikita’ which she had for sixteen years. She took great pleasure in making afghans. Over the years, she made and gave away nearly two hundred afghans.

She will be sadly missed by all who loved her.

A graveside service will be held Tuesday, June 4, at 3 p.m., at Lakeview Cemetery, in Union. The Reverend Wayne Sawyer will officiate.
