ROCKPORT — The talk of the waterfront in Rockport was the May 16 surprise arrival of the Bold, a 279-foot cruising vessel built just a little more than a year ago in western Australia.

The Bold, with a crew and passengers, has been anchored in Rockport’s outer harbor, establishing a large presence just beyond the lobster boats and sailboats. The vessel is anticipated to be in the harbor for two days.

Built by Silver Yachts and designed by Espen Oeino, the mega-yacht measures 279 feet in length, 36 feet at its beam and draws nine feet. The aluminum vessel reaches a top speed of 24 knots, according to its charter page, YachtCharterFleet.

With a helicopter pad, two tenders, and luxury outfitting, the yacht, whose homeport is listed as the Marshall Islands, is made for the long haul and is classified as an expedition vessel.

This particular passage, according to MarineTraffic.com, originated in New York May 13.

The vessel is listed for charter at approximately $1 million per week.
