Alfreda L. Blood, obituary

CALAIS and ROCKLAND -— Alfreda Louise Blood, 80, passed away Friday, July 5, 2019 at the North Street Bridge Home in Calais.

Alfreda has joined her husband Larry Blood; father and mother Orrin and Vinnie Graves Benner; sister Marilyn Watts as well as her grandson Michael Ulvila and great-grandson Landon Ross, in the arms of our Lord and is now home at peace.

Born in Thomaston, on November 29, 1938 she was the youngest of three. Raised with the understanding and importance of family, friends and community, Alfreda lead a full and active life.

She was a member of the Eastern Star and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Alfreda enjoyed Beano, bowling, and camping. Mostly she loved Country and Western music. She could wail with Waylen or yodel like Pearl. She was a guest singer on the Curley O’Brian Show and sang with a group of ladies at Beaver Lodge known as the Swinging Beavers.

Living most of her life in Rockland, Alfreda and Larry moved to Union and wintered in Florida where she was a regular in the Parks Variety Show and taught line dancing to the other residents.

Family and friends meant everything to Alfreda. She spent her early years as a stay at home mom, raising four daughters.

Later as the family got older she joined the workforce as a part time pizza maker at Coles Market and the PicQuick. Later she found her passion helping others by obtaining her CNA license and working at Knox Nursing Home in Rockland and Beacon Family Living in Owls Head.

Evenings were spent with friends playing poker or canasta, a bonfire at the camp in Lincolnville with a few cocktails and many stories to tell was commonplace at the Blood residence.

Alfreda is survived by her daughters, Kim Moran her husband Ron of Lincolnville, Kelly Thomson her husband Alexander ‘Sandy’ of New Brunswick, Canada, Karen Holbrook her husband Neal of Union, Kristin Ross her husband Jay of Owls Head; grandchildren, Harmony Rahkonen, Renee Rogers, Heather Hustus, Brandi Gourde, Jesse Ulvila, Timothy Ulvila, Stacie McClure, Corey Reynolds, Kendall Ross and Bryan Ross; more than 20 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews as well as a brother in Southern Maine.

A graveside services will be held  Saturday, July 13, at 12 p.m., at the Village Cemetery, Erin St, Thomaston. A celebration of life will follow at Mic Mac Campgrounds Lodge.
