AIO launches weekly Student Summer Meal Program at four Midcoast locations
AIO Food & Energy Assistance has launched its Friday Student Summer Meal Program. Meal kits will be available for pick up every Friday throughout the summer at four convenient Midcoast public library locations: Rockland, Thomaston, Owls Head, and Camden Public Library.
Beginning Friday, June 27, meal kits will be available free of charge to students and families, helping bridge the nutrition gap when school is out and access to regular meals can become more difficult.
Each kit contains kid-friendly, nutritious breakfast and lunch items for 2 days, ensuring that students have access to wholesome meals each week of the summer. The program is part of AIO’s ongoing commitment to food security and family well-being in Knox County.
“We know that summer can be a challenging time for families who rely on school meals during the academic year,” said AIO Program Director Laura McGrath, in a news release. “Our Student Summer Meal Program is designed to be convenient, accessible, and nourishing for students of all ages. Participating in the program is as simple as asking for a meal bag at the participating library’s front desk!”
Meal Kit Pickup Locations:
- Rockland Public Library - 80 Union Street, Rockland
- Thomaston Public Library - 60 Main St, Thomaston
- Owls Head Public Library - 31 S. Shore Dr, Owls Head
- Camden Public Library – 55 Main St, Camden
Families are encouraged to pick up one kit per child each week. No registration or proof of income is required.
