ROCKLAND – A heavy, driving rain failed to dampen spirits Aug. 1 as young Midcoast women vied for 2018 Sea Goddess crown and a $2,000 scholarship. Proof of their stamina came during the Coronation ceremony, held on the Rockland waterfront, as the skies opened.

But none of that mattered when the name Taylor Hamlin, of South Thomaston, echoed through the sound system, eliciting a roar of excitement from friends and family within the audience.

Hamlin beamed as she crossed the runway before accepting the crown from out-going Goddess Haylie Witham at the conclusion of the event around 9:30 p.m.

There were nothing but smiles as Emcee Dan Bookham announced final recognition and thank you to out-going Coronation Chair Sharon Lombardo, who then named the 2018 Miss Congeniality: Lauren Miller, of St. George.

Erin Dugan, Thomaston, is the 2018 Crown Princess.
