17th Annual Pascal Hall Art Show to be held Dec. 7 and 8 in Rockport
The Annual Art Show will be held again this year at Pascal Hall, 86 Pascal Ave in Rockport. December marks the 17th year of this show, formerly held at High Mountain Hall in Camden, and, “it once again promises to be an exciting exposition of new work by a group of eight local artists,” said Patty Bolz, in a news release.
Exhibiting in this year’s show are Patty Bolz, jewelry; Arduina Caponigro, photographs; Autumn Cipala, ceramics; Julie Crane, prints & paintings; Jessica Lee Ives, paintings; Margaret Rizzio, assemblage; Anneli Skaar, paintings; and Michaela Stone, leatherwork and sculpture.
Creating her gold jewelry with an emphasis on both form and texture, Patty Bolz is drawn to the structure and strength of inorganic materials and formations — an attraction often translated into her work. Giving particular attention to the integration of the elements within each piece, she designs and builds jewelry that is both dynamic and wearable.
Fine art photographer, Arduina Caponigro captures surprising moments of beauty and wonder with images discovered and created in places as far off as Antarctica, and as close to home as her back yard in Maine. She takes joy in sharing her curiosities and journeys with you.
Autumn Cipala is a nationally recognized ceramic artist. She creates elegant porcelain vessels composed of graceful curves and clean lines. Soft, translucent glazes highlight hand-carved details and nuance of form. Cipala is the 2024 Maine Artist Fellow in Fine Craft, an esteemed award presented by the Maine Arts Commission. She holds an MFA from University of Nebraska- Lincoln and a BFA from the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University.
Upon moving to Cushing in 2023, Julie Crane continues seeking ways of conveying what she calls the “songs of spies.” As an homage to Bernard Langlais, she spent one day painting animal sketches inspired by his sculptures at Cushing’s Langlais Art Preserve. Other works include large woodcuts, intaglio prints and small encaustics involving plankton, a result of collaborations with several scientists. Her fascination with the unseen juxtaposed with common creatures continues to dominate her work.
Subsumed by the movement of water and reflection of sunlight, Jessica Lee Ives’s figures are inseparable from their natural surroundings. Her paintings transport us to the lake or ice-cold ocean and remind us of healing moments of buoyancy and immersion. Ives’s paintings are filled with adventure, vitality, natural beauty, and wonder.
Margaret Rizzio creates one-of-a-kind multi-layered collages filled with synchronistic and repeating elements sourced from magazines and ephemera. Rizzio pulls her inspiration from the euphoric colors and ubiquitous imagery of the “perfect woman” used in print during the 1940s, 50s and 60s. Each collage is a tiny world unto its own, the new context lending a fresh perspective to familiar imagery.
Anneli Skaar was born in San Francisco, California, to Norwegian immigrants and received her B.A. in graphic design and illustration from the National Academy of the Arts in Oslo, Norway. A multimedia artist and maker primarily working in oils, Skaar also creates limited-edition artist books. Her paintings often feature nocturnes and delicate still lifes and her publications, climate- related themes. In her free time Skaar teaches paper flower courses in her Camden studio.
Michaela Stone (Studio Crie) creates functional and non-functional objects, blurring the lines between art, craft and design. Working predominantly in leather, wood and textiles, she combines traditional craft techniques with innovative form inspired by nature, architecture and the history of material cultures. Each piece is made by hand with ethically sourced materials, quality craftsmanship and a commitment to sustainability.
A festive opening gala will be held at Pascal Hall on Saturday, December 7 from 4 to 8 p.m., and the gallery remains open on Sunday, December 8, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. All are welcome.
