Mon, 02/26/2018 - 9:45am

HALLOWELL — A discussion concerning Central Maine Power’s metering and billing issues will be on the Maine Public Utility Commission’s agenda Feb. 27, when it convenes in Hallowell for a regularly scheduled meeting.

The CMP matter appears as agenda item 4, as “Commission initiated investigation into metering, billing and customer communications pertaining to Central Maine Power — Consideration of investigation.”

Customers have been questioning and complaining about the increase is charges over the winter that have appeared on bills. Residents across Maine have been posting complaints on business bureau sites and Facebook at CMP Ratepayers Unite

“The PUC has received many complaints from consumers, primarily CMP bills, so a lot of those complaints are related to a new billing system that CMP installed and certainly some are replaced to cold weather, so those are a few of time items the commissioners are going to speak about,” said Harry Lanphear, administrative director. “They will deliberate, they could speak about all three of those issues.

“We’re like a court, so they will have some information they will be referring to, and then there will be vote. The staff is putting that information together today. After the vote there will be an order that will detail the decision and detail what is going to happen.”

    The PUC agenda item says:

COMMISSION INITIATED INVESTIGATION INTO METERING, BILLING AND CUSTOMER COMMUNICATIONS PERTAINING TO CENTRAL MAINE POWER COMPANY.

    Consideration of: Investigation

Staff Assigned: Davidson, Derek; Huntington, Faith; Raber, Leslie; Tannenbaum, Mitchell

The meeting begins at 10 a.m., 101 Second Street, Worster Room, in Hallowell
