Michael Baird of Canaan passed away peacefully at Togus VA Hospital in Augusta on September 13, 2017.

Born April 15, 1948, he was the son of Wilbur Baird and Merrion (Florence Lombard) Baird. Michael was a quiet man who kept to himself. He loved nature, which included hunting, fishing, gardening animals and playing softball. He enjoyed collecting old insulators from telephone poles and loved woodworking and anything he could do with his hands. In his younger years Michael was is the army but was more recently a laborer.

He was predeceased by his mother and father, sister Marlene Collemer, brother Charles Baird, sister Theodora Hicks Baurassa, and nephew Peter Baurassa. He is survived by his children Michael Baird and wife Diane of New Russia, Ohio; Ed Baird of Knox; and Melissa Harding and husband, Stan, of Searsmont; as well as sister Darlene Baird Barrows and husband David of Lincolnville; and brother James Baird, of Wisconsin. He is also survived by his grandchildren Jason, David, Myresa, Matthew, Alice, Lacey and Kyle and nephews and nieces Gary, Bert, Heather, Jonathan, Jamie, Justin, Milly, Lisa and Donna. Friends include Gene Carter, Kevin Wilson, Lee Richardson, Mike Collemer and dogs Chi- Chi and Penny.

A celebration of life will be held at community meeting room of the Searsmont Town Office, Oct. 22, at 1 p.m. Burial will be held in Clinton at Evergreen Cemetery. Both will be held on a later date.
