ROCKPORT — An aspiring artist with a variety of creative interests has been named Camden Hills Regional High School's Visual and Performing Art Department "student of the month" for January 2013.

Carman Lamb, a senior at CHRHS, has spent her high school years involved in myriad visual and performing arts. In visual arts, she has studied photograph, drawing and clay art, and is currently taking a class titled "Advanced Art Portfolio."

She has also lent her talents behind the scenes on several high school theater productions, including hair and makeup for three years, during which she helped with West Side Story and Phantom of the Opera. She also worked on set painting for Phantom of the Opera and The Odyssey, among others.

Lamb also has an interest in music, and has studied harp for six years, according to a press release from the school administration office.

"In visual art, the effort Carman invests in projects is phenomenal," said school officials in the release. "She has spent many hours outside of school time, often taking large art pieces home to spend weekends and vacations completing them to her high standards."

Lamb's artwork has in the past been selected for Fine Art Night and the annual Student Show at Rockport's Center for Maine Contemporary Art. And last spring, her papier-mâché lion was a feature of the CMCA exhibition.

Her dedication and achievements are credited with earning her a spot at the Student Craft Studio Workshop at Haystack School of Crafts in the spring of 2012.

Carman plans to attend to a liberal arts college in the fall, and her favorite quote follows.

"For my part, I know nothing with any certainty, but the sight of the stars makes me dream."Vincent van Gogh.
