Steven Rhodes and Isaac Rhodes, obituary
WASHINGTON — Steven E. Rhodes, 53, of Washington, passed away on Jan. 23, 2017, at his home. Steven was born May 2, 1963, in Mildenhall, England, to Lincoln and Moody Attaway Rhodes.
Steve became a citizen of the United States in Boise, Idaho, and lived there about three years. He also lived in Sneads, Fla., for a year, while his dad was stationed in Viet Nam, and he attended Sneads Florida Elementary School as a first-grader. The family then moved to California for about 1-1/2 years, and then his dad decided to retire from the service and came to Maine and has been in Washington for the past 45 years. Steve married his wife, Elizabeth Robishaw, on June 20, 1981.
Steve graduated from Medomak Valley High School in Waldoboro. Steve took up masonry studies at the vocational school in Rockland/Owls Head. He did masonry work for Ormond Goodwin Construction in Camden for a few years. He also worked for Hunt Brothers Hardware for awhile, and worked at Bath Iron Works but had to give it up because of neck problems. Steve had been working for Storer's Lumber for the last 16 years.
Steve liked sports in school and continued to be involved in sports at the South Liberty Baptist Academy as a boys' coach. He also loved going to church.
Steve was a member of the South Liberty Baptist Church in Liberty and a trustee of the Church. Steve will be sadly missed by many Christian brothers and sisters in the Lord.
He was predeceased by his son, Isaac S. Rhodes, the same day.
Steve is survived by his wife, Elizabeth (Robishaw) Rhodes of Washington; his parents, Lincoln and Moody (Attaway) Rhodes of Washington; his daughters, Rachel Batlis and her husband, Dean Jr., of Washington, and Rebekah Lord and her husband, Douglas, of Camden; his brothers, William "Bill" Rhodes and his wife, Carol, of Washington, and Keith Rhodes of Washington; his sisters, Sandra Lufkin and her husband, Joel Sr., of Warren, and Kimberly Peabody and her companion, David Gould, of West Gardiner; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, many cousins and many friends.
Isaac Stephen Rhodes, 25, of Washington, passed away on Jan. 23, 2017, at his home. Isaac was born April 28, 1991, in Bangor, to Steven E. and Elizabeth (Robishaw) Rhodes .
Isaac was a graduate of the Class of 2011 at Medomak Valley High School. He was honored at his graduation by speaker Neil Lash. He was known for his infectious personality and his charming ways and great hugs.
He loved to sing, he loved animals, especially his last dog, King, who has outlived him though just barely getting around, four wheeling with his Dad, listening to music, stuffed animals, bowling trips with Mobius, participating in Special Olympics from the third-grade until 2012, watching movies and television, going fishing and watching birds.
Isaac had been going to Mobius in Damariscotta since he graduated and seemed to enjoy it very much. Coastal Botanical Gardens started their own program through Mobius because of Isaac's interest in the flowers and bumblebees.
Isaac was the most well-natured child and young man and will be dearly missed.
He was predeceased by and his father, Steven E. Rhodes, the same day; and his aunt, Jeanne Robishaw.
Isaac is survived by his mother, Elizabeth Robishaw Rhodes of Washington; his maternal grandparents, Donald and Ercell Robishaw Sr., of Rockland; his paternal grandparents, Moody and Lincoln Rhodes of Washington; his sisters, Rachel Batlis and her husband, Dean Jr., of Washington, and Rebekah Lord and her husband, Douglas, of Camden; his uncles, William "Bill" Rhodes and his wife, Carol, of Washington, and Keith Rhodes of Washington; his aunts, Sandra Lufkin and her husband, Joel Sr., of Warren, and Kimberly Peabody and her companion, David Gould, of West Gardiner; his uncles, Donald Robishaw Jr. and his wife, Gail, of Rockland, and Ronald Robishaw of Rockland; his nieces, nephews, many cousins and many friends and caregivers at Mobius Inc. in Damariscotta.
A celebration of the lives of Steven and Isaac will be held on Saturday, Jan. 28, at 11 a.m. at South Liberty Baptist Church in Liberty, with the Rev. Chad Colburn officiating.
