Parsonage Gallery's third spring season launches with two new solo exhibits
SEARSPORT — The Parsonage Gallery launches its third spring season with two new solo exhibitions by Matt Jones from New York City and Sal Taylor Kydd from Rockport. All are welcome to an opening reception Saturday, May 3, from 4 - 6 p.m.
In the downstairs gallery, The Parsonage hosts Dawn by Matt Jones.
"A mystical energy pulses through the artist’s visionary, brilliantly colored canvases, which depict rays of sunshine, wriggling eyeballs, and gargantuan mushrooms," said Parsonage Gallery, in a news release.
The artist reflects that these works deal with “mourning and ecology, the imagination and loneliness, the desire for contact, connection, and love.”
Where Jones evokes a fresh sunlit day, in the upstairs gallery Sal Taylor Kydd’s Heard conjures a nocturnal world of memories and dreams.
"Using found photographs, fragments of handwritten text, mixed-media, and a bewitching soundscape, Kydd constructs intimate vignettes that encourage quiet contemplation," said Parsonage.
She hopes that visitors reflect on “the power and persistence of women’s voices across generations” and "listen more closely to the echoes and the murmurings of voices long suppressed or barely noticed.”
The Parsonage Gallery exhibits dynamic work by a diverse slate of contemporary artists, with a special emphasis on issues of ecology and spirituality. It is directed by Dr. Aaron Rosen and is a program of Our Common Foundation, a registered 501(c)(3). It is open 11am-sunset daily.
