CHINA — Josephine L. Starrett, 93, died peacefully on Aug. 11, 2016, at Maine General Medical Center in Augusta.

Born in Hallowell on March 24, 1923, she was the daughter of William and Elva Henderson Harp. Educated locally, she was a 1941 graduate of Hallowell High School. Following high school, Josephine attended Gates Business College in Augusta.

A hard worker her entire life, Josephine spent more than 23 years working in retail at several local establishments. During the later part of her career she was employed as a teacher in the adult education system in Orlando, Fla. She was also active in her local community of Warren, Maine, where she was a member of the Eastern Star and Rebekka's serving as Worthy Matron.

Predeceased by a sister, Marion Murphy in 1992; and a step-brother, George White; Josephine is survived by her beloved daughter, Lisa Starrett of Warren; and a sister, Muriel Greenleaf of Vassalboro.

Family and friends are invited to visit on Friday, Aug. 19, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock St., Rockland. A graveside celebration of her life will be held Saturday, Aug. 20, at 11 a.m. at Grove Cemetery in Freeport.
