Woman charged with assaulting former boyfriend with toaster
ROCKLAND — A Topsham woman who was arrested for allegedly beating her former boyfriend multiple times with a toaster and destroying the contents in an apartment they recently shared, made her initial court appearance in Knox County Unified Court June 1.
Samantha Schrader, 21, of Topsham, was charged with domestic violence aggravated assault and aggravated mischief for allegedly attacking her former boyfriend May 28 with a toaster and punching him several times causing bleeding on the side of his neck, according to the police report.
Judge Susan Sparaco set bail at $2,500 cash. As of June 7, Schrader remains in the Knox County Jail.
Rockland police officer William Smith responded to a Main Street residence after being notified by dispatch of an open 911 call with yelling heard in the background, according to the police report.
When Smith arrived at the residence, he was met by the victim who had called police when he discovered his former girlfriend inside the apartment trashing the contents. The man gave police a large folding knife that he said he took from Schrader, according to the court documents.
Smith also witnessed Schrader throwing items from the deck of the apartment which were smashing as they landed on the pavement below.
The victim told police that he asked Schrader to leave the apartment two days ago. She told police that she only came back to retrieve her belongs but heard that he was dating another woman who had moved into the apartment right after their relationship ended, said the police report. Schrader admitted to police that she was very upset about the victim’s new girlfriend so she started destroying his possessions.
The victim told police Schrader threatened him with a knife, but she denied this and said that she only used it to cut up his clothes.
According to the police report, the victim’s apartment was destroyed, dishes were smashed everywhere, clothes had been cut up, furniture was tipped over and a computer was also destroyed.
She will appear in court again July 28.
