CAMDEN — The Camden Opera House recently launched a new website designed by Thierry Bonneville of Bonneville Consulting in Belfast. The website was funded entirely by a grant from the Maine Community Foundation. The new site is still located at the existing web address: camdenoperahouse.com In a beautiful and easy to use way, it contains expanded information on the Opera House.
In January, Kerry Hadley, Opera House manager, attended the Association of Performing Arts Presenters Conference in New York City. This conference showcased over 1,000 artists as well as offered best practices workshops and seminar. One result is booking Lucie Arnaz July 27 for an intimate evening of cabaret at the Opera House. Lucie began her long career in a recurring role on the television program The Lucy Show, later starring in her own series, The Lucie Arnaz Show and in the film including The Jazz Singer with Laurence Olivier, and several made for TV movies. She garnered an Emmy and created Arluck Entertainment with her husband actor/writer Laurence Luckinbill. On the stage she has experienced even greater success, winning the Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Award, the Theatre World Award and Outer Critics Circle award. She has appeared at the Mark Taper Forum in LA, on Broadway and in London at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane. She now tours the US and Europe with her critically acclaimed nightclub act, selling out stops in Las Vegas, Atlantic City and NYC.
The Opera House hosted a record number of sold-out programs this fall and winter, including the 29th annual Camden Conference, the fourth return of Lunasa, this time with Grammy winner Tim O’Brien, several Winterfest events including a full house for zydeco musician CJ Chenier who had the everyone joyously dancing. Jungle Jack Hanna came in person and thrilled us with fifteen very exotic animals. The Family Fun Film Series has grown with increased sponsorship from Camden National Bank and increased attendance at each movie; upcoming ones include Princess Bride and Shrek.
Also coming up the Opera House will renew their annual partnership with the Camden Film Festival, presenting CIFF Selects monthly. This year’s series begins with a bang with Michael Moore’s new documentary “Where to Invade Next” March 17. A concert withChristine Lavin and Don White is March 19 and by popular demand, host a big band concert, the Hal McIntyre Band, for Mother’s Day. Kea Tesseyman will also perform her spring show, Grit and Grace the first weekend of April, and a special Earth Day program will include dance by Molly Gawler along with a film, Within Reach.
