Evelyn Crocker, obituary
CAMDEN — Evelyn K. Crocker, 97 died peacefully Jan. 5, 2016, following a period of declining health, at Quarry Hill in Camden.
Born in Lincolnville on June 13, 1918, she was the daughter of Lindley and Ruth Hopkins Knight. Educated locally, she was a 1934 graduate of Camden High School. Evelyn went on to earn her degree in teaching from the Gorham State Normal School in 1939. Continuing her education at the University of Maine at Orono, she later earned her master’s in education from Boston University in 1954.
Evelyn spent her career as a dedicated elementary school teacher, first in Augusta and Camden, with the majority of her career spent in Brookline, Mass.
Predeceased by her husband, Herbert Crocker, formerly of Hyannis and Newton, Mass.; her siblings, Charles, Maynard and Marion; and a nephew, Rickey Golay; Evelyn is survived by her nephews, Lindley Knight and his wife, Terry, of Warren, Charles Golay of Boston, Mass., and Ronnie Golay and his wife, Jenny; her great-nephews, Andrew Golay and Jeff Golay; and a great-niece, Heather Knight.
A private graveside memorial service will be held at Newton Cemetery in Newton, Mass.
Arrangements are in the care of Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home.
